Fairly new to the area so scouting out all the haunts, this was my first and have been back a few times. Its nice enough bar a few grumbles, when we came in the summer we decided to sit outside, due to previous stupid people who think its funny not to pay (so we were told) we had to pay before the food came, this took the restaurant vibe off a little and then on top of that we were forgotten about which didn't make us feel very wanted.
We went back last weekend and safe to say it was alright bar one miserable waitress who needed to go and kick the cat, however ordering the lovely leek pie and mash, they charge and extra 30p for gravy. I tolerated this but what got me was they put the gravy on for me, what am I 3? I've just paid 30p for something that has been sitting on a hot plate and then its poured for me, so I cant even have my pie swimming in gravy (ohhh yum), I get mums servings :(. Either the gravy needs to be reflected in the price or give me my own jug. I dont know why it bothers me about the gravy, but to me its not very inclusive for the meal being served. As Manu Feildel would say on my kitchen rules - more sauce! Then I got a hot chocolate instead of a Mocha.
The food is lovely so I have no issues or complaints, its just the little things they need to let go off and be more wholesome on as its so cozy but you can lose the vibe very quickly on the stinginess. Also when not busy, would be nice not to sit next to close to other patrons, so it enhances the vibe

The staff were amazing, very knowledgeable about the menu, attentive and friendly, food was a taste sensation , the lemon tart was sublime, 4 of our group had the fillet steak and the feedback was “melt in the mouth” . Our only critique would be portion size for the larger eaters of our group, sides could be an option but we didn’t see them on the menu, but I’m sure if we had asked the staff would have obliged as that is the sort of service they gave, nothing was a bother. We all loved it and will go back.

My wife and I fancied a takeaway following a return from a winter holiday, however our usual Chinese and Indian takeaways were closed. My wife spotted New Shanghai via a web search and we thought we would try somewhere new...and we were impressed. The website we ordered through suggested the order would be with us within the hour, however it arrived just 20 minutes after ordering, and given we live the opposite end of town, that's pretty fast. The lady who delivered the order was very friendly and cheerful. The food was plentiful and tasty...we ordered General Tso's Chicken, House Special Curry and a large Thai Fried Rice...the dishes were nicely spicy with fresh chilli pieces in the rice and a spicy sauce with the General Tso. Not only was it great food, but they provide free prawn crackers with orders over £10 and they also gave us a Chinese wall calendar for the New Year in with the bag. I was impressed. I am sure we will use New Shanghai again, based on this first order.

We always thought this place was closed on first glance, but seeing it open today, me and my husband thought we'd give it a try.

I'm so glad we did! It's £8.99 per person for their buffet lunch, and whilst they don't have a huge selection, what they do have is quality. The Salt & Pepper Chicken and Satay Sauce, in particular, was to die for. Service was extremely friendly, and whilst the decor isn't anything fancy, the food, service, and price more than make up for this.

I'll definitely be returning again in the near future!

Ordered a meal to be delivered, when it arrived we paid in cash plus tip.About 15 minutes later we received a call from The New Hong Kong accusing us of not paying. No matter what we said we were told they were going arrive on our doorstep and demand payment.During the call the amount that we were being accused of not paying was clearly for a different customer. We checked our address with them and they had rung the wrong number. I could hear arguing in the background where the girl said she had rung the right number but we had answered!We had a very lukewarm apology she then hung up on us without taking any responsibility for the mistake when we asked to speak to the owner.They shouldn't leave without payment, give customers receipts and this awful situation would not occur. It was a very unpleasant call, they should be very embarrassed by the way they spoke to us and hanging up on us.Seriously not impressed.Added 26/03/2023Today the owners came personally to my home address and apologised, bringing with them a large box of chocolates.That shows integrity. I am very impressed.

Myself and my husband decided to give this place a try when we saw they did a £10 Wednesday Special advertised in their window. It comes with a starter, a selected main, and either boiled rice or fresh naan.

We both tried their Samosas and Onion Bahjis to start, which were delicious, and we then decided on a Lamb Buhna and a Chicken Buhna. Both were excellent and far exceeded my expectations for the £10 we paid for each of us.

I couldn't fault the service; our waiter was very attentive and answered any questions we had with no issues at all. Atmosphere was quiet, warm, and cosy.

I'll definitely be back in the future to try some of their other dishes for myself.

Finally came here for a drink on a Sunday after driving past loads and constantly saying “We should go there one day”.
Last time I visited was 20 years ago (wow I feel old). So wasn’t sure what to expect now.
It’s a lot different to what I remember! So cosy instead, great decor, loads of drinks to choose from. The barman was very patient with me and my fussiness on how much lime I like in my lager and lime (and he made it perfectly!).
Was lovely to sit outside, loads of seats and different options. Nice to have sofas out there and the birds are a really special touch!
Parking is great round the back! Loads of spaces.
Will visit again for sure.

Popped in for a cream tea. Located in residential area, it's a quaint traditional tea shop. Friendly, welcoming and with excellent food at a reasonable price. Scones were hand made, warm and beautifully soft in the middle. Leaf tea in China cups, lovely taste and flavour.
Whilst we didn't try them, others had an afternoon tea or jacket potatoes and certainly weren't under-fed!
Well worth a visit - note that they close at 3pm most days !

Eagerly awaited my Friday chip shop treat. This week I was indulging my Friday treat in Kirklee Run. The chippy had a huge fatheringmof customers which is always a great indication of things to come. Advertised in the window was their meal deals and for £3.85 I had chips, 2x sausage and curry sauce. Piping hot and tasty was my overriding thoughts.

We had a party of 5 adults and 3 small children ages 2,4 & 6. The menu gave lots of options plus there were some really good specials on offer. The portion sizes were plentiful including the kids meals and the food was excellent. Top marks to the staff who were very welcoming and attentive, nothing seemed too much trouble. All in all I would highly recommend the Jolly Sailor, great food, reasonable prices, a nice setting and lovely staff - well done.

Food was great & reasonably priced.
Has that old style pub feel that is unique. Gotta try it yourself to see.

Such a lovely atmosphere, and the couple than run it are so adorable and kind. Food is yummy and proper homemade , the decor is oldy worldly and quaint. We love it and my son who is 9 loves it in his words, really pleasant and tasty.

This is our first dinner of our trip to Norfolk and I’m glad that it was a great start. We all loved the scallops and the unique great taste of the pea puree was a big surprise! Lobsters were all cooked to perfect. Our server Aidan is a star! He was very attentive to our needs and his professional manner throughout the night made us feel like in a 5-star fine dinning restaurant. Will definitely recommend this restaurant and will come again in future.

Very nice pub that's split in half (half restaurant, half bar). Seasonal menu, pizza menu (including dessert pizzas) and a specials board all fairly priced. Would have loved to see some more pub classics on the menu though like gammon egg and chips, however their selection is good and will please most hungry folk! Had Garlic mushrooms and battered cauliflower to start, scampi + fish and chips for main and a very nice apple crumble for dessert. Pleasant experience and good service. No cocktails available in the menu though, please implement some! Would come more often!We went on a Thursday night. Completely empty and we dined for 1 1/2 hours and had the place to ourselves. Had a nice intimate evening not having to talk over other people, would reccomend. Note that their kitchen is shut on Mon + Tues tho
