Rajah Spice Tandoori
5A Queen St, WellsI came here for a late dinner after a concert at the cathedral, this was why we chose to dine here as it is open late. A great option for an after hours meal. The food was great and full of flavour, we ordered a bit too much as we wanted to be able to try lots. I wish the food had been a bit more spicy but I suppose we could have chosen different ones.

The Loft at Wells Cathedral
Penniless Porch, WellsA nice little cafe with a selection of drinks, cakes, and other items. I had a luxury hot chocolate, which was delicious. I think there was more topping than drink, though! The cakes were nice, and the portion was just right.
There are steps up to the cafe. I didn't notice if there was any disabled access.
The cafe is quite cosy with plenty of tables and mismatched chairs.
Parking: There is minimal short stay street car parking nearby. However, there are a couple of long stay car parks with plenty of spaces about 10 minutes' walk away. The long stay car parks are pay by cash, app, or online and are quite cheap compared to other cities. We paid £6.50 for all day parking.
Wheelchair accessibility: I didn't see any access other than stairs. There isn't a lot of room between some of the tables in the cafe.

Morrisons Cafe
E Somerset Way, WellsCalled in recently about 2pm for a quick light lunch. Service was quick. The offer for soup, a hot roll and a drink was excellent. The Chicken broth was hot and very tasty. Being a Waitrose card customer, we were entitled to 20% off the cake of the day which was fresh and delicious.

The Sheppey
The Sheppey Inn, Lower Godney, WellsLove this pub. The food is amazing and the bar offers a great range of local beers and ciders. The pub makes a big effort to source all of their food locally. Spacious, with plenty of room for each table and quirky decor make this a proper experience. Be aware that parking can be challenging but that being said we've managed okay the last couple of times we've visited. Very pleased that we only leave 20 minutes from this fab' pub.

Strangers with Coffee
31 St Cuthbert St, WellsWe came to visit here from London, loved how friendly the staff and locals were to us! We genuinely felt that West Country hospitality. We had three coffees and all were delicious and of very high quality, but the cakes … the cakes were out of this world, home baked and very delicious! Clearly high quality ingredients were used as well. If we are back in Wells, this is our new go to coffee spot.

The Queen Victoria Inn
Pelting Drove, Priddy, WellsThe best pub I’ve been to in a long time. Really friendly locals pub, had a great chat with the guys at the bar. The best pie and mash I’ve had in a pub ever, you could tell the beef, ale and mushroom pie was homemade, came with lots of gravy. Would definitely visit again.

The Fountain Inn
1 St Thomas St, WellsA table upstairs for four.
The service was comically poor, erratic.
Two of us arrived twenty minutes early and thought we would have a drink at the bar. We were told they would take us up to our table and take a drinks order.
It was ten minutes before they took this order and asked if we were ready to order food. We reminded them that we were waiting for two more people.
Our drinks arrived, as did the other two members of our party who had been sitting downstairs waiting for us as no one had told them we were upstairs. We asked for an additional wine glass but none came so they drank wine from a water glass.
After a while we ordered food. Then another member of staff came to take our order.
After another while, an extra wine glass arrived, so they used it for water.
During the meal, as there were no staff around, one of the party went downstairs to order two drinks.
A little later I managed to get the attention of one of the staff and asked for a second bottle of wine. This came promptly, before the two drinks previously ordered.
We asked again for the two drinks. Someone else came to our table and apologised, took the order again and then a third person came to confirm the order!
Anyway, the food.
The food was very good, at least the dishes I tried were.
I had panko breaded prawns followed by beer battered haddock with crushed mint peas and chunky chips. The batter was crispy, no sogginess here, and batter to fish ratio good, a lovely piece of fish.
The chips were very good too, proper chunky chips.
My partner had grilled goats cheese followed by pan fried sea bream on a mediterranean potato cake.
All in all a very enjoyable meal, just don't let the service spoil it (if you have the same experience as us).
Would recommend the food, the service had comedy value.

The Good Earth
4 Priory Rd, WellsI needed somewhere to have lunch whilst I work and Good Earth was on my list. This place is cosy yet full of character and life. It was busy downstairs so conveniently I went upstairs where I was quieter. My quiche salad was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. I highly recommend this place for those who want a coffee and a chat with old friends, that’s definitely the vibe I got from the customers.
