Have eaten here a few times. Very good quality fish & chips. Restaurant at the back is nice and clean, decor is pleasant. You can also sit outside and get takeaway offers such as 6 cod bites and chips for £5.99. My mum is very fussy but she enjoyed her meal, nothing negative to say!

Nice place had been there several times before it changed ownership a few years ago food very good good size portions of vegetables , which I found lacking with present owners one small portion of vegetables between two which i thought was for me , slightly overpriced otherwise very nice .

Five Stars is not enough to rate this awesome cozy restaurant in the lovely village of Dunster. Excellent service, excellent menu, excellent wine and excellent atmosphere. If you are in the area don’t hesitate. It’s a must.

Last April I posted a scathing review of The Bottom Ship after a particularly bad experience. The owners responded in the best possible way by giving me a gift voucher for a future visit, and today I used that voucher.
What a difference!
The food was excellent, freshly cooked and delicious, the service was was first class.
Having presented the voucher for the meal the staff forgot to charge me for the drinks. Yes, I did remind them!
A completely different experience and we'll definitely be going back in the future.

A superb welcome and wonderful place. The first time for an Exmoor Tea - cheese scone, cheese and chutney (cheese or chutney on first? The loveliest hot chocolate with marshmallows I have ever had - visited last week and still thinking how lovely it was - should have asked at the time how it was made - will have to return again one day when in the area.

We had a lovely time talking to the locals at Sugar Bar. Alex was very helpful, kind and made us feel very welcome. She was also fantastic with our daughter.
Thank you for a lovely evening.

Kid-friendliness: Mocktails are available and at a very reasonable price.
Alex is great with children and goes out of her way to make sure they have a special time.

Went in Alcombe fish bar yesterday, hadn't visited in many years due to not being in the area.
Food was absolutely first class, all cooked fresh so hadn't been sitting in the range for an hour. Cod was freshest I have ever had, no ammonia smell that I get here in the midlands.
I'm sure it is still the same family run take away from 40 years back.
Hard to think of any fish and chips I've had that beat the food here.
Top quality. Looking forward to next time.

First time visiting the uk and after a long flight we stopped by for a late lunch with my fiancé and his parents. I had the turkey brie cranberry jacket potato and it was amazing! Definitely will be stopping by again!

Went in for first time with my elderly frail grandma and we loved it.Was very busy for a Monday morning but we got great service a warm welcome with a smile and very clean establishment.Coffee was so amazing and perfect temperature also I had the breakfast with poached eggs and was one of the best breakies I've had for a while it was divine fresh local produce cooked to perfection every bite was a sheer delight! My nan had a fruit scone obviously homemade and she demolished it, nan Said it was fab and the with the cream and jam with it made her morning she took some bread and butter pudding home for tea and was delicious was like how she use to make it she said haha .Great to see a Independent business doing so well with the hard working staff who work as a team and not surprised trade was busy thank-you cafe cream we def will return to see you all again

We weren’t staying here but went for their evening set menu.
We arrived early to wander around the area which is well worth doing.
The Locanda was wonderful. Both the people we met , the chef and the manager were lovely. Extremely professional but also very friendly and interesting to talk to.
The meal was extremely good. Each course was beautiful to look at tasted delicious. It was very inventive and surpassed our expectations.
We have had a fair few tasting menus and this was up there with the very best. Superb.

We had the pleasure of spending a couple of nights at The Great House.Sheila and Bruce were fantastic hosts and full of local knowledge and information and couldn't do enough for us.You'd be happy staying in any of the 5 rooms they have to offer, all are very stylish and in keeping with the property. The food is also very good, from breakfast to bar meals, and they also do a three course evening dining experience.In the evening you can spend time in the lounge and bar. It's a lovely wood paneled room with wingback leather chairs, soft lighting and background music.I would highly recommend spending time at The Great House.

This is a really lovely place. Breakfast is excellent, the beds are comfortable and the rooms are pretty and quirky with good sized bathrooms. The staff are really kind. It was also excellent value. Dunster is pretty and there is a great castle and working watermill within minutes of the B and B. There is very easy access to some stunning walks. So altogether - excellent!
