The Fryery
110 High St, BiggarThe food is top tier but I can never decide between the fish (sadly not Cod but once you taste it you won't care) or the sausage which is the greatest I have ever had not made by my dear old Mum. The staff are dlightful and the locals friendly.

K-wok Chinese Take Away
154 High St, BiggarK-wok, is far better than what you would expect in a small town in the Scottish Borders, it's easy to understand the long waiting times at weekends when the food is this good

The Barony
55 High St, BiggarWe arrived and were warmly greeted and shown to our table. The decor is gentle and sophisticated but you did sink down into the chairs a little.
We chose our food. I had the Thai fishcake balls with lemon mayo which were tasty but did not taste of Thai at all and the mayo did not taste of lemon and was a bit heavy for the fishcakes. A Thai chilli dipping sauce would have been better. However, still very nice. My partner had the roasted red pepper and tomato soup which was delicious ?. Really very good! However we had to ask for bread as it did not come with any.
The next course was brought out almost immediately which is something I really don't like as you feel rushed. That's why I gave four stars for service as the waiting staff were excellent.
I had the loin of bacon in a mustard sauce with mash and kale. The loin was good, as was the sauce. I think the mash could have been more creamy and buttery, it was a little solid. My partner had the lamb in mint and red currant gravy with sauteed new potatoes. The lamb was soft and flavourful. It was very good but not a show stopper for the money.
We shared a pudding, raspberry cheesecake which was soooo creamy and delightful. Lovely presentation too.
All in all, great food, nice atmosphere and lovely service. I was expecting perhaps a little more, it was very well cooked food but nothing I would not be able to do at home. No breaks between courses is a no no, we would have had another round of drinks if we had had a break.

The Big Red Barn Company
South Melbourne Farm, Elsrickle,, BiggarTook the family for lunch recently. Really enjoyed the tagliatelle, with home made by Errington Cheese, crowdie, and beautiful squash plus hazelnuts, which combined for a delicious experience. My difficult to please son had the Italian sausage rarebit, which came on a brioche base. Again, unexpected combination of flavours was delicious. Sadly, we were driving so no wine for us, but a good selection on offer. Also interesting was the cheese pairing menu which included suggestions for a small piece of cheese (nearly all Errington) and interesting, high quality accompaniments. Gingerbread, honeycomb and fig jam being some. Although it was a busy afternoon and the restaurant was full, tge service was very smooth and efficient with friendly knowledgeable staff.
All in all, a great experience.
