A solid pub on the Royal Mile. We usually come here for food. Definitely recommend making a reservation if you're looking to eat, as it gets full pretty quickly. I usually get the chicken schnitzel, but it's been hit or miss the last couple times I've gotten it. They've been a bit thick and chewy, even though the ones my wife has ordered were fine. That aside, it's still a great place for a meal and drink.
What stood out the most was the atmosphere. It is ideal if you like bars with history. The service is very good and the prices, although they are a little more expensive than in other places, are more than recommended! I went for lunch on a Saturday, without a reservation, but I went around opening time, when I left it was already full, so if you have lunch after 12 I recommend you book.
I was very disappointed we are a party of 5 visiting. The good points lovely pub and a waitress was very nice (South African lady) however the food was disappointing the burger buns were burnt, the burgers over cooked and the carrots were chewy. We heard another waitress say that they only had one chef I appreciate the fire of recruiting chefs as I own a few pubs but if you cannot deliver the standards then you run a reduced menu or don’t open I hope this was an isolated day...read full review
