We had dinner here for my mother-in-law's 80th birthday. We were brilliantly looked after (and entertained) by the staff. The food was excellent, both the beef casserole and the fish and chips and both were very generous portions. We'll be visiting again soon.
What was once a great pub has had the heart and soul removed. Just another production line pub selling OK beer and very boring food. No imagination in the menu at all. Pie and chips, burger and chips, steak and chips etc etc. this in an area where most other pubs put effort into their menus.
The Woodfords ale was great. Nice little outdoor space. This place has been changed radically! My grandfather was landlord here from early 40s into the 50s. It was listed and preserved as it was in Nelson's day. It does feel to have lost a little of that historical feel but it's been reinvigorated for the current age which can only be good.
