What a fabulous, tucked-away, secret garden of a find, The Malthouse is! I can't recommend this place enough. We stopped by for a lunch in the autumn sunshine and were greeted with prompt service and an abundant menu. As a tourist from Düsseldorf, the café was the highlight of my trip to England. I recently visited and was amazed by both the service and the food. The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel at home from the moment we walked in. But the real star of the whole thing was the Haddock cream soup - it was to die for! The best poached eggs on toast - perfectly cooked. The crispy bacon was excellent too. My husband's pancakes and bacon were some of the best he'd had. The selection of cakes was very good, we took some home with us and they were fabulous. Very accommodating of our dog too. Even better is it combines itself with an antique shop upstairs. We will certainly be back.
