I had to get a wheel fixed at the engineers next door and had an hour to kill, so went in here to do some work. I had the finest BLT with Avo and Fried Egg. It was absolutely delicious and well worth it. Plus the cortado was made just how I like it, unlike the other chain of coffee houses and even some other indies.

The ladies that worked here were super kind and helpful. Thank you.

I doubt I'll be back here soon, as I live 25 miles away, but if you're in the area or even waiting for a wheel to be fixed like me, then make sure you to stop in at But First.

In York for work and staying within walking distance. Fancied an Indian and so glad this restaurant was the closest. The food was outstanding and the person who served me (I think it was Abdul) was attentive but not pushy. When I'm next up this way I'll definitely be back!

This place is a little Gem. We were staying in a guest house just up the road, and called in as it looked nice. We hadn't booked and was lucky that they had a table for us. Not that it was a problem for us, but they don't serve alcohol. They do have a great selection of non alcoholic drinks to choose from, which more than satisfied us. You can bring your own drinks if you wish.
On to the food, which was absolutely gorgeous. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted Amazing. The staff were lovely and helpful, even though they were run off their feet due to being so busy. If I could give more than 5 stars for the food, I most definitely would. The only thing I knocked down was that it was quite noisy ( probably just because it was busy and their was a certain party in, that was more loud than your normal groups ! ).
Would thoroughly recommend and would definitely go back when we next visit York.

It has a baby changing/breast feeding room! Just what we needed today when out on a walk round campus. You can get Starbucks coffee here now too. Aesthetically lovely.

The Plough Inn

Lovely restaurant and friendly, accommodating staff! The mussels in cream sauce were fantastic; best sauce I've ever tasted! The space is cozy, and inviting and will be a place I hope to visit again.
