The Moody Cow
Crow Hill, Upton Bishop, Ross-on-WyeWe came to this restaurant and ordered the pork belly and the fillet of beef burger the pork Valley was the most tender pork belly I have ever had in my life and the fillet of beef burger was good with a sauce inside the burger patty however the patty did look like a meatball which was a nice surprise the pudding was amazing. We had a special. The customer service was very good. We had three different people keeping an eye on the table and having conversations with us and being generally very friendly. Additionally the pricing was not too bad. I ended up spending around £30 on a meal that feels like it could’ve costed £40.

Avellino Italian Restaurant
10 High St, Ross-on-WyeVary rarely there's a place that does everything well.
The Avellino team does.
It's difficult if you have special dietary requirements, like allergies.
I have an allergy and two intolerances & my Mrs has an intolerance and an allergy, we feel very comfortable eating here.
I spoke with Loni, (apologies for incorrect spelling). He can advise against dishes containing allergens.
The cutlery is clean. The glassware is clean and not chipped or cracked.
The crockery is also immaculate. The tables are always clean. The draught's are properly chilled and don't taste like the lines haven't been cleaned in a long time.
The front of house staff are always immaculately presented and service is of the highest quality.
The cocktails are exquisite and if you fancy one but don't want alcohol, there is a mocktail menu also.
They cater for veggie and gluten free.
They have a lovely, large open space dining room. I dropped my fork, the cutlery is back end heavy. By the time I had picked it up he had come over with a replacement.
It's almost silver service and Michelin cuisine but for a very reasonable price.
The menu is a mixture of Italian and Greek influences. But the product is purely indulgent.
Which brings me to, desert. If you can permit the calories the desert menu is a sweet tooth paradise.
Excellent coffee.
Most of my reviews are 1 star, I acknowledge I'm difficult to please and often heavily critical.
This time, if there was a 6th star I would have awarded that.
Vegetarian options: On offer is a combination of pasta's, salad and pizza's all available in Vegetarian options.
There is also some antipasti available, you could have the greek salad.
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options may be limited but what they have is good, my favourite is salmone insalata, (salmon salad). Highly recommend.

The Royal
Royal Parade, Ross-on-WyeBeautiful room, super friendly people and lovely food. The only slight letdown was that odd moments of service just let it down, such a shame but retail is detail. My wife asked if she could order an afternoon tea for 3pm Saturday at just gone 5 on Friday, the young man told it wasn't possible excuse 24 hours notice was required, he didn't even crack a smile. She asked the proprietor again on Saturday morning who said 'absolutely' what would you like. Then at dinner we were left waited Ng for sweet chilli relish, it never arrived, and a second spoon was requested and needed a reminder about 5 minutes late. But these are small details, the rooms are exceptional and the overall vibe is excellent. Zam Zam
23 High St, Ross-on-WyeZam Zam’s has been our regular choice for a local Indian supper for many years! The food has a wonderful depth of flavour and quality. The service is really excellent and prices very competitive. We would highly recommend!Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie and pescatarian options. It’s also possible to eat a lower fat choice with a very good range of food without a sauce.

Aston Crews, Ross-on-WyeFirst time here. The food was excellent, well prepared, and presented. My husband did leave his food to get more drinks from the bar, which is the only negative. We shall just wave as well as shout next time as we will go back. There is no doubt about that.

The Hostelrie at Goodrich
Goodrich, Ross-on-WyeWe came for 3, nights price of room and breakfast was exactly the right rice, service was excellent from all the staff, my only gripe would be not enough choice on the food menu ( I'm more of a curry man or ploughman's or pizza)
But we would definitely visit again, Lovely hotel and surroundings, the castle was a added bonus right on the doorstep, if your looking for a stop over would definitely tell you to book this place,

Wye Knot Inn
Symonds Yat, Ross-on-WyeExcellent local pub near to the campsite we stayed at, just a short walk up the hill. According to reviews here it can get very busy in the summer and the inside is sometimes restricted to locals only but we had no problems going in for snacks and drinks in May. It was busy but they were very friendly with seats, tables, a fire and a TV inside, with picnic tables and a small car park outside. Great local beers and ciders.

Takeaway Restaurants

China Boy Jo
27 Gloucester Rd, Ross-on-WyeMy first taste of real authentic Chinese cuisine! Obviously cooked with care, a starter of perfectly fried seaweed, and the most exquisite and delicately formed mini spring rolls I’ve ever tasted, with no hint of excess oil, which were absolutely delicious. Main was egg fried rice with chicken with green peppers and onion in black bean sauce . Oh! Perfection in itself, every mouthful a testament to the chef’s prowess in the kitchen. Comfortable and peaceful atmosphere, with friendly and helpful staff. An experience you won’t forget in a hurry. Highly recommended.

KFC Ross on Wye - Ross Park
Netherton Rd, Ross-on-WyeProbably the most efficient KFC in the land! Never have to wait more then 5 minutes for them to put together an awkward order for a family of 4. Only downside is the toilet facilities, gender neutral toilets save space but they're not very welcoming (or clean and particularly they don't smell nice) for my young daughter who was more than a little intimidated by the big guys going through the same door as her. That's just my opinion though.

Orles Barn Hotel
Wilton, Ross-on-WyeWe were staying at a B&B in the area and this restaurant was recommended to us. We are so glad we chose Orles Barn and our experience there was 5* from start to finish, including the friendly waiter hanging up our coats. The food was superb and beautifully presented. We followed the waiter's recommendation of the homemade Toblerone cheesecake for dessert. I can usually take or leave Toblerone and cheesecake, but this was heavenly! It was a wonderful meal and experience.
