Restaurants in Burghclere

Dew Pond Restaurant
Kingsclere Road, Old Burghclere, Nr NewburyA great understated restaurant. A small menu but great variety and all fantastic quality. Lovely range of wines, too. They took note of the words on the reservation and made a really effort to make the meal fantastic.

Carnarvon Arms
Winchester Rd, Whitway, NewburyGreat gastro pub with good atmosphere, food and staff but.........I hadn't been to the Carnarvon Arms for several years and I thought to revisit for Sunday lunch. My friend and I were pretty much first in at midday and were greeted warmly by the staff on what was a pretty grim day. Sunday lunch was lovely (although the chef needs to learn how to make gravy properly for Sunday lunch, a watery broth may be "de rigeur" but it's not right. It just makes everything wet and soggy) but was spoilt by a visit to the washrooms which to be kind leave something to be desired. Used toilet rolls and a very rusty radiator just made the place feel uncared for and neglected behind the scenes. The overall feeling being one of "all fur coat and no knickers". Had we have eaten at say 4pm the state of the washrooms might have been excusable but not at Midday. Surely someone checks the condition of the washrooms at the start of each shift? I would still recommend the Carnarvon but would urge someone to get a grip on the essentials.

Shell
A34, NewburyStopped off here today on the way to Devon, all chargers are working and very easy to use. Did cost to much to use 49p per kwh. There is seating and even a vending machine. Very clean and tidy, There is also a small waitrose in the petrol station. Highly recommend using if you need to charge and have a pit stop.
