Old Nelson Brewers Fayre
Stratford Lodge, Stratford Rd, StroudWe haven't eaten at this Brewers Fayre place for many years and have been twice in recent weeks. The first time was on a Friday lunchtime, and we hadn't booked. There was plenty of room for us, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The food was excellent and good value for money.
Our second visit was on a Sunday lunchtime for the carvery meal, and this time, we booked online as it was bound to be busier. It was easy to book and we decided to eat at 12.15pm to avoid the very busiest period at 1pm. It was still busy, but their setup for serving food and drink was very efficient. Another great meal, and we were able to benefit from a 25% off email.

Stonehouse Court Hotel, Bristol Rd, Stonehouse, StroudLovely hotel, the main building is stunning with a lovely bar, restaurant and terrace area. Food was very good. Gorgeous grounds and nearby canal area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Most rooms are in an adjacent building, the decoration and quality of furniture and bathroom was good but our rooms was set below ground level with one small window so it was quite dark. I ordered last night Sat 1st Nov, a Haddock and a Plaice, large chips, curry sauce and a mushy peas, yes it was expensive at just over £25, but it was absolutely delicious, the fish were cooked perfectly and not over cooked and dry. My Plaice was delicious with not too much heavy batter, which I like. Just perfect. I love their curry sauce as well because it is different to other shops. The Ship Inn
Brimscombe, StroudWe walked from Wallbridge along the canal towpath to The Ship Inn for Sunday lunch. We hadn't booked but there was plenty of seating in the marquee.
We chose the roast chicken, pork and lamb, which were served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes & carrots, cauliflower cheese and a selection of vegetables. Special mention goes to the tender pork loin which came with ample strips of crackling, the lamb which was melt in the mouth tender and of course the jug of tasty gravy! These were the best roast dinners that we've had for a long time.
We ordered and paid at the bar, the bill for 3 roasts and 3 drinks came to £64.75. The staff were friendly and cheerful.

Prince Albert Inn
Rodborough Hill, StroudWhat a great wee pub on the hill!
We visited on a Sunday evening and walked into what felt like Lottie and Miles' living room! Really cosy and inviting, with an eclectic display of artworks and fairy lights hanging all around. All the staff were friendly and helpful and busily preparing for that night's gig. And we were kept amused by the two dogs, Fernando and Margo, who completed the homely throng!
It's a fab place for a gig, of which they host many. The acoustics are really clear and the sound engineer really knows her stuff. Check out their program for the next couple of months.
They have a great selection of real ales and beers, (of which sadly I couldn't partake because we'd driven down from Birmingham), but the low/non alcohol offering was varied so there was no trouble choosing an alternative. Food comes in the shape of burgers and pizzas. The menu may be small but it is perfectly formed! We went for the Spanish pizza which was loaded with delicious toppings on a thin crust base. The burgers looked mouth watering, but we'll have to try those next time.
Do yourselves a favour and pay them a visit if you're near Stroud. You won't be disappointed!!
Wheelchair accessibility: All on one level.
