And wowwwwwww what a choice! Me and my partner have never had a better Sunday roast - veggie options spot on too! Staff were lovely and the Guiness was the best one we’ve had.

The steak was really good and cooked perfectly. The chips were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.

48 High St, Saffron WaldenI am very picky about fish and chips having been brought up in the North. This is one of only three places I eat f&c in East Anglia. I usually eat in but this time all the tables were taken. I thoroughly recommend this f&c shop. It's a gem.

Their octopus starter is divine.
The Malbec red wine they have is nice and easy to drink.

The Trawlerman Fish Bar
4-5 Central Arcade, Saffron WaldenFood was pretty good and the price was phenomenal. An absolute bargain for some very good chips and some decent cod, The batter wasn’t fully connected to the cod and the fish was not easy to cut as the batter was very crispy. The chips were fairly good and good portion of salt and vinegar on the chips. All sauce was on the house which was a nice touch to the place. A very good selection of seafood to get and overall a very nice place to be.
The portions were really good and a large cod and a large chips were enough to serve two very hungry lads. A nice open area with seats to look out at a nice brick wall but nevertheless the location was very good.

Pub only serves food on Sunday’s but they have a rotating food trucks - see their website for details. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Couldn’t fault it. Good luck to the new owners!

1 Mercers Row, Saffron WaldenAfter reading some of the previous reviews I wasn’t too sure what this place would be like! You can’t please everyone so I decided to give them a go tonight. The food was lovely. The sweet and sour chicken was fresh and tasty and the chow mein was nice enough. Lady on the counter was friendly and I will use them again.

The Plough Great Chesterford
High St, Great Chesterford, Saffron WaldenBooked a table for 6 for my 49th birthday. I went here in the summer and was very underwhelmed. I’d heard it was under new management and I wanted to try it out. . A smallish menu was given but what we were presented with was very outstanding - the Scotch egg was perfect - we all had the Plough burger, which was fab - lovely chips and a home cooked feel to the burger. The chap that served us (or maybe the owner) couldn’t have been more polite- he was spot on with his timing and comments - he should train all staff to be like this! I used to work here 10 years ago and my service was never this good!!

They do table service, but manage to remain a proper pub rather than going "way gastro". A good beer selection, including Wadsworth's 6X, which it's unusual to find in this part of the country.

96 High St, Saffron WaldenFour old rugby fans went to see England get beaten by Australia. We didn't know the pub, but were welcomed with open arms by the landlord, Ian, his sister-in-law and by the regulars. Really nice beers and bacon butties. A nice mixed crew of young and old, men and women, and the occasional baby! Two lovely labradors made sure we finished our food! Good outdoor area too. We are definitely going back.

Superbly kept real ales that have been recognised by CAMRA and Cask Marque for many years. A roaring fire greets you in the winter months. I haven't eaten here before as I don't visit during food service times, but I thoroughly enjoy and recommend this town treasure.

Wicken Road, Clavering, Saffron WaldenStayed for one night. The pub is lovely and the evening was very nice.Our room was very nicely decorated and perfect for our needs for the evening. The only real annoyance was the people who were below us. Either they were being exceptionally loud or the ceilings are very thin. We also had to wedge our room door closed to stop it banging about, as we had the windows open, as the room was quite warm.Breakfast was lovely, staff were brilliant and helpful. Would recommend to anyone looking for a decent room for an evening away.

Smallbridge Rd, Saffron WaldenHad a fantastic lunch here today. Spent 3 hours here as the atmosphere and service was great. Food amazing, plenty of it and VERY reasonable. Staff very friendly and the place was very clean and tidy. Definitely worth a visit.

The Plough Inn Sampford Rd, Saffron WaldenThis was my first visit here and I have to say it was lovely. Food was delicious and there is plenty of options on the menu. Vegans are also catered for. Staff were polite and organised. Lovely surroundings and you can see that it's been renovated to a very high standard. Prices very reasonable. Would definitely visit again.

They prepared a a fabulous feast for that wasn’t even on the menu. The restaurant was quite busy, but the food promptly arrived served by incredibly friendly staff. High St, Arkesden, Saffron WaldenSimply amazing. The A&C was a favourite before a fire levelled it. Thanks to great insurance, it is rebuilt even better - and you wouldn't know it's built in 2024, not 1624. The same owners continue to deliver the finest food in the area, and service is very good. We miss some of the bric-a-brac, for which the pub was famous, but the venue is improved nonetheless. But please... bring back the dessert trolley!
