The Old Oak Inn
CaneheathWe had a lovely meal on a lovely sunny bank holiday Monday here. The food was lovely, the garden looked pretty and they had a great singer in the garden playing country music. Only issues were the music was a little loud, you couldn’t hear one another speak at all and while eating that’s not great. Also the garden smelt strongly of drains or stagnant water, it wasn’t especially pleasant. We moved to an area of the garden where it wasn’t as noticeable but still when the wind blew it wafted over to us which was a little unpleasant while eating! Other than that though it was excellent, I’d be inclined to eat inside if we go again.
Parking: There is lots of parking however on a busy day it can get very busy and you may need to park on the road, which isn’t the best as it’s a narrow country road.
Kid-friendliness: There is a play park to the side of the pub near the car park.
Wheelchair accessibility: The garden is easily accessible and the main bar, although the main bar is a little cramped perhaps for a wheelchair, typical of the age of the pub.

36 High St, PolegateI’ve been meaning to write this for a while. I’m celiac and have a dairy allergy, tiffin2go always take extra care with my order. They’re one of my few trusted places. The food is really good and the chef is lovely. We drive here from Eastbourne because it’s the best. If you’ve allergens I would recommend. The tarka dahl is something special!
Vegetarian options: Tarka Dahl is absolutely the best. Bombay potato too.

The Mill Restaurant & Coffee Shop
The Centre, Roy Martin Way, PolegateVisited this cafe for the first time, it was lovely & clean with friendly staff. Meal was cooked to order, (home cooked pie) food served hot & large portions. Good value for money & lovely to have options other than chips with everything.

The Coffee Stop
Polegate Train, Station, PolegateWe called in for a burger and chips. It was massive. And the fries were plentiful. All for just £5. We chatted to the woman behind the counter who was Japanese and very friendly. We definitely want to go back to try their roast.

I have been a few times and the staff have always been super friendly. The chips are probably the best around, the fish always tastes super fresh and any other side I've had have always been spot on.

1 High St, PolegateExcellent service and the new menu was great! I had the chicken, bacon and waffles which were delicious. My only regret was filling up too much on pasta from the salad bar and not leaving room for dessert! I did think the new garlic bread was naff though - super cheesy, but it’s on a flatbread which just isn’t right if you ask me!

5 Grand Parade, PolegateTakeaway review. We had a lamb tikka biriani, taka dhal, lamb passanda with pilau rice and onion Bhaji.
Everything was delicious! The rice cookery was outstanding, often an oversight with Indian restaurants.
Delivery was prompt and the food was hot.
Not sure why we have not used this restaurant for years, but will now be our go to.

K2 Indian Restaurant
Nightingale Hill, PolegateWe ordered the set meal, a chicken tikka biryani, a chicken tikka dansak and a bombay potato. All of the food was really nice. The chicken was good too. The biryani was our favourite as it was really flavourful. The tikka masala was quite creamy, not as deep or 'spiced' as others I've tried though.

Yew Tree Inn, Arlington
The Street, Arlington, PolegateCame here for lunch today, I had the Crispy pork belly. It was the largest piece of pork belly that I have ever seen! The veg was lovely as well.
Then I had the banoffee pie, which was wonderful. Can't go wrong with banoffee pie.
The staff were nice but there was one young man in particular that was so happy the whole time we were there. He seems ro genuinely like working there. Unfortunately, I didn't get his name, but he is a credit to the pub.
We sat in the back garden, which is a lovely space with lots of trees, flowers, and plenty of chance for shade.
All in all, beautiful pub, wonderful staff and tasty food. Will visit again!

Calamar Fish Bar
46 High St, PolegateWe've got our fish and chips from here many times - great fish and chips, always cooked to order, although the chips could be more cooked for my liking, they always seems a little undercooked! But this doesn't put us off. The fish is great and the place is always so clean! We walk past when it is closed and they are always there cleaning it - great to see.
