Restaurants in Portland

Crab House Café
Ferrymans Way, Portland Rd, WeymouthI am well aware that I am very critical when I eat out so believe me when I say that this place is exceptional! Fantastic sea food, beautifully cooked without too much fuss so that the flavour of the fish still shines and is merely enhanced. Great wine menu and they even do a great dessert! Did I mention the oysters? Large and couldn’t be fresher!. No ‘discretionary’ service charge that so many restaurants seem to adding now, complimentary bread (why does no one else do this anymore?). The staff are all lovely, kind and friendly. Not somewhere I can afford to eat regularly but now and then, it makes for the most amazing treat!

The Cove House Inn
91 Chiswell, PortlandMy family and I visited the Cove House Inn a total of 4 times on a week's getaway in Portland, twice to eat and twice to just sit and have a drink outside the pub and enjoy the views.
The Cove House is very charming, relaxed and welcoming and the food is really fantastic, Sunday roast was a particular highlight but my crab linguine was amazing also, the rest of my family's food was given a big thumbs up as well. We booked a table in advance both times we ate and would not have got in otherwise so that's worth considering to avoid disappointment....if I had one criticism it would be the cost of desert seems a little high, don't get me wrong, it was lovely, but I would think slightly cheaper would have just about made it perfect. We will not hesitate to come back again when we are in the area and having it as a local really helped make our stay in Portland memorable.

The George Inn
133 Reforne, PortlandFriendly staff. The food was good although the sirloin steak didn't look like it was a sirloin steak. Fish and chips were great. Pub garden is lovely and kids were occupied by the swing. It's a nice pub.

Quiddles Cafe
The Esplanade, Chiswell, PortlandLoved it! I arrived, knowing I had to eat, that I didn't want much, but I didn't know what I fancied. So I ordered a cheeseburger. It came with a smallish salad. I didn't order chips, like I said, I wasn't very hungry but I didn't want an energy dip...
The cheeseburger! Really, really good. The patty was medium rare, lovely and moist, but with a touch of char to give that great flavour. A bit of lettuce, some well cooked bacon, 2 slices of cheese, and a gherkin! Simple, but so well cooked and put together.
The staff were nice as well. But the burger!

The Eight Kings
40 Southwell Rd, PortlandWe are in Portland for a short break and decided on the Eight kings for our dinner.
The staff are very attentive and friendly. From what I saw locals were in as well (so a big thumbs up from them) drinks were prompt- our dinners to a little longer than expected but the staff kept apologising.
But it was well worth the wait - yum
I would def recommend ?

Afternoon Tea at Heights Hotel
The Heights Hotel, Yeates Rd, PortlandThis is a great hotel; rooms are spotless and very comfortable, the Bistro offers amazing views and the food is excellent too (one tiny criticism; the evening menu needs a lighter option). What really makes this hotel special is the staff- every single person we came across was friendly, attentive and efficient. Special thanks to Belinda, she is an absolute treasure and really looked after my 89 year old mum. Thank you so much! We would definitely recommend this hotel and cannot wait to return.

Golden island Chinese take away in Portland
33 Straits, Easton, PortlandI have eaten Chinese for years, all over the world. This is far the best Chinese I have ever had.
The family owners are very friendly, and their son is always friendly and helpful.
The food is very tasty and is packed in the containers and is value for money.
The takeaway is 5 star food hygiene rating.
Love the house fried rice and noodles, lemon chicken. My favourite is prawn toast.
Shame the prices have gone up with cost of living, so paying £7 upwards on main meal, so not cheap buying for 2 or more.
On the new updated menu, they started doing boxed meals around £8.50each.
Vegetarian options: Pletty of veggie options.
Dietary restrictions: Not to sure.
Parking: Depending on time, you park outside.
Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly.
Wheelchair accessibility: No, it's got a step, but they will help and bring your food out to you.
