The Little Shed
1 King Edward St, AshbourneWe booked an afternoon tea here and really enjoyed it. The staff were very attentive, thoughtful and friendly. We were asked about dietary requirements on booking in advance on the phone and the staff were already up to speed having read the booking notes on our arrival, immediately running though the menu highlighting what was suitable for a member of our party (ordering off the main menu) who had a nut allergy. Dog's are not allowed inside but are welcome outside. The afternoon tea was delicious with a good selection of sandwiches and cakes. We ended up taking a few of the cakes home!

The Bluebell Inn
Adam's Rd, AshbourneJust beautiful! Absolutely loved it! The food, the ambience and the service. A great place for a catch up, going for a meal or just enjoying a drink. The venue has a few different rooms creating a different vibe in each one. We were placed in the orangery. Great in the summer but can get quite cool in the autumn/winter months.
We were enjoying a meal for a staff member leaving. I specifically asked for an area near the pizza oven but unfortunately this was not granted. However the meal was lovely. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food and had a great evening. I’ve been here twice and both times it’s been a great experience. Thank you. ?

Carsington Water - Mainsail Restaurant
Carsington Water Visitor Centre, AshbourneCame here with the clan. Access to the restaurant can be gained through the lift also which makes it wheelchair accessible.
Service was slow but it was a nice day and a little busy. Staff were polite and there's a good range of food. Vegetarian options available.
Parking nearby and toilets onsite make it an easy one stop for all.
All in all a nice place to work up an appetite and get some food, or maybe walk off the meal as there are lovely walks around the lake.
Enjoy your visit.

The Bridge
33-35 Dig St, AshbourneHad a walk through Ashbourne and came across The Bridge which is part of the Marstons company. We had dinner here and the service was very good. The tables were all clean and as it was a Monday it wasn't very busy.We had two mains of the burger with cheese and bacon, this came quickly and was very tasty and was a job to finish it all. Home made coleslaw, onion rings and chips. Everything about it was great and would definitely recommend it if you're feeling hungry. We also had the mince and onion pie again this was of the same size portion. The pie was served on a big bed of mashed potato and a generous portion of green peas. Also had a large gravy boat if you wanted to add this. The pastry was very tasty and buttery and not dry like some other places. Again a good size portion. We wanted dessert but after these we had to admit defeat and go without. Maybe next time we'll have room.

The Nags Head
Main Road, Hulland Ward, AshbourneWhat a wonderful warm, genuinely friendly welcome from the lovely owners. Have to say I have never had a shepherd’s pie as utterly scrumptious as the one made by the amazing chef Adam. The chips are to die for too. Cosy and comfortable inside, particularly by the open real fire. Lovely vibe from the moment you enter to the moment you leave with a ‘thank you, very much’ as a parting both ways. An absolute gem of a pub.

We went with a tapas menu including garlic prawns, bbq ribs, calamari, patatas bravos, arancini, charcuterie and assorted vegan dishes.
We ended up ordering too much but better that way I suppose!!
All the food was delicious and delivered perfectly on time in a great setting.
Many thanks to Will for his expertise and organisation. Highly recommend for the food and setting.

The George at Alstonefield
1 church lane, Alstonefield, AshbourneWent in with friends at the weekend for lunch, the lady behind the bar kindly advised us that as there were just the two staff (bar person & chef) and as we were a big group there may be a slight wait for food to which we agreed. Despite this, the food came out in little time and was good. Although the pub usually shuts for a couple of hours in the late afternoon we were not rushed out and made to feel welcome, would recommend.

Stepping Stones
Derbyshire, AshbourneWe visited after a car breakdown nearby left us stranded for several hours, and the staff could not have done more to make everything as easy as possible for us. They went out of their way to check on us and ensure we had a way home or somewhere to stay as we aren't local, and Laura went above and beyond by giving us a list of local places likely to have a vacancy for the night. The food and drinks were all great quality especially for the price, and the atmosphere and decor of the place was very welcoming. It was also noticeably clean and neat and well cared for, and overall turned a very stressful situation into a surprisingly relaxing afternoon and evening! Thank you for all of your help

The Okeover Arms
Yerley Hill, Mapleton, AshbourneGreat location, amazing food. Me and my best mate had an overnight stay, 3 course meal and breakfast in the morning. Great location for exploring the area for walks, villages and Alton Towers. We checked in and we had a room facing a field of sheep at the front which was lovely. Our room was cosy and had a highland cow theme, bed was really comfy. The usual tea and coffee making facilities, ensuite bathroom, TV. We had a three course meal in the evening each and each dish was full of flavour. The atmosphere for a Friday evening was busy but calm, really nice vibe. The warm white lighting and the decor with the painted map of the area on the wall added to the feel. The staff were friendly and attentive. Our breakfast the next morning was spot on. We both went for the full English, tea and orange juice.

Fenny Bentley, AshbourneA busy, friendly pub where I stopped for a much enjoyed Sunday lunch. Thank you !
Parking: A gravelled and sloping parking area should be adequate on most occasions for most users. Sunday lunch is probably exceptionally busy and I was lucky to find a space. I didn't notice any specified disabled spaces but, in spite of the slope and surface, disabled parking and access is possible.
