Cottage Chippy
29 Main St, Hensingham, Whitehaven"I recently visited The Cottage Chippy for some classic fish and chips. The chips were well-cooked, and satisfying, but the fish was slightly let down by the overly thick and heavy batter, which took away from the overall experience. While the fish itself was decent, a lighter batter would have made a big difference. That said, the staff were great—friendly, attentive,"

Anna's Bar & Kitchen
1 Millennium Promenade, WhitehavenWe visited here yesterday. My husband had pulled pork and I had fish and chips. The food was excellent, very tasty, good portion sizes and the prices weren't OTT. The setting of the restaurant overlooking Whitehaven harbour is beautiful, a nice place to enjoy a drink is the terrace outside. The only negative about this was there were people smoking on the terrace. As it's private property, why not ban smoking on the terrace so everyone can enjoy their food and drink without someone spoiling it? But like I said, beautiful food, beautiful setting and efficient service.
Parking: Pay and display parking a short distance away.

Greggs
61 King St, WhitehavenFor first time in ages and I mean ages I got 2 x Chicken and Bacon club baguettes for £3.15 each. I have to say they were amazing. I loved them both. Why it's taken me this long to buy them again beats me. I'll buy them each week now when I'm in town. Just awesome and staff were fantastic. I'm back as a Greggs customer.

That Food Place
43 Market Pl, WhitehavenOK. So this is my kids' roast beef lunch from That Food Place. So. Along with my provision of horseradish sauce, there was an ample mountain range of roast beef - many, many slices - a Yorkie (homemade to get your chops around sufficiently), some roasters (also from the larder and oven of the premises), some funky ribbons of savoy cabbage - when did you last see that except for when it was on your plate and you didn't want to eat it when you were nine? - some tasty mashed swede and turnip - a turn-up for the books and one under normal circumstances I would have preferred left unopened but in this instance quite surprisingly fresh, novel and tasty - the winter roots playing a a nice, seasonal, hearty part - and some nice, not cloud-fluffy, mash you could get your incisors underway with.I also had a nice brown carton of mini choc doughnuts which I have to say was disappointingly half-ful, dry and I thought over-priced but nothing that another helping of the 'nuts and some thick whipped cream wouldn't sort out. Nice going, That Food Place, and I'm sketched in for the full Xmas menu if I have to stagger it over a few days.

The Whittington Cat
21 Lowther St, WhitehavenThe food is always good and good value in my opinion, and the staff are always pleasant, but on our past 2 visits we've waited between 45 minutes to over an hour from ordering to be served. One member of our party ended up having to take his meal to work with him in a carry out box the wait was so long. We were not told that there would be a wait due to the high number of deliveries being prepared, it was only when we asked we were told. Come on guys, you can do better.

The Yellow Earl
66 Lowther St, WhitehavenOh. My. God! This place is amazing. Me and my partner ordered of Uber eats and we waited a whole hour with no show (absolutely not the yellow earls fault). The lady on the phone at the Yellow Earl told us half an hour in they were concerned about the driver not arriving and we told them that we would wait. They called half an hour after that and offered to drive all the way (we are half an hour from the restaurant) to deliver their food. Not only that they had remade the food as it had gotten cold from the wait of the Uber eats driver. This shows their dedication as a lot of places would just cancel the order. NOT ONLY THAT!!!-> but when the food actually arrived… oh my god!!! The food. The delicious food I haven’t had food like that in a long long time it was absolutely delicious. Everything about it. My partner had the Italian pizza and salad and I had the pulled beef bao buns and the squid sticks and (need I say again) oh. My. god! I felt like I was in heaven. If I could give this place a 10 stars I would. Me and my partner will definitely be coming to this place first hand very soon! Thank you everyone at The Yellow Earl

Taste Café
31 James St, WhitehavenHad to go to Whitehaven for a hospital visit and this was pretty much the first cafe we found. How lucky we were - we could easily have gone in to a greasy spoon and regretted it. But instead, we had lunch in what is probably the best cafe in Whitehaven! We both had meat pie, peas and gravy with a side of fresh, homemade chips. Absolutely delicious!! Proper Cumbrian portion (read - big!) - pie packed full of gorgeous mince and potatoes drowned in a lovely gravy. So good, I’m sure we’ll day trip again just for lunch! Staff really friendly and not a rip-off pricing.

The Globe Inn
95 Main St, Hensingham, WhitehavenWe came to visit cleator moor in April for a birthday, we looked for places to eat and we came across this and drove straight past it as we didn't think it looked very inviting from the outside... We have come back a few months later for a return visit and after doing our research decided to try it. We are so glad we did the food is absolutely beautiful, what a gorgeous hidden gem, we liked the food so much ( the sirloin is amazing) we have come back the next day to eat again before we venture home Sunday. Like I say first impressions from the outside aren't the best, but take the plunge and go in. The staff and the locals are lovely , warm, welcoming and will tell you all the hidden gems regarding walks, places to go. 10/10 from us all round Moral of the story don't judge a pub by its outside appearance. Would rather give our money to small local pubs with amazing food and atmosphere than any big chain pub. We have certainly found our go to pub when we come back to cleator moor.

Whitehaven R.U.F.C

The Haven Club
Cleator Moor Rd, WhitehavenThe place is a calm oasis next to a road (busy at rush hour only ). The spotlessly clean and well proportioned rooms provided a welcoming rest after a busy training course. The owner takes every care to provide to your allergy and dietary needs. A lovely surprise when an experience exceeds your expectations for the financial payment charged for the room. The original beautiful Georgian features of the building have been sympathetically maintained, adding to the charm of this little Gem in such a historical city.I would definitely recommend a stay.

Rooftop Cafe
10 Lowther St, WhitehavenI used to regularly visit Dixons Rooftop Cafe when I was younger and decided to go back after several years. Pleased to say the meals are of a decent standard, the prices are fair( most meals costing £9-12) and you can still eat outside if the weather is nice. Service is good, the staff seem to know the regulars and the tables are cleaned regularly, with hand sanitiser on the entrance and exit to the cafe. Although it was out of order when I visited Dixons, there is a lift. Note, Dixons Rooftop Cafe doesnt' offer table service, you need to get a table number and order at the till, which can lead to long queues if the cafe is busy. Otherwise nice to see the standards have been maintained over the years and the cafe is still popular

The Peddler
The Bus Station, Bransty Row, WhitehavenLatest visit - double birthday celebration. Lunchtime Wednesday October. Mocktail missing 2 ingredients - fresh mint leaves & lime, £4.20 for a ginger beer, not impressed. Garlic bread ordered, cheesy garlic bread came out - daughter doesn't eat cheese. (Thought standard now was to ask about allergies before any order taken). Asked for bill, told to pay at bar. Total entered on card machine, I had no sight of itemised bill. Asked if wanted receipt - yes, then saw itemised bill going in bin.
Sliders lovely in brioche toasted buns. Coronation chicken sandwich. Teriyaki pork tasty.
Disappointed by this visit to our go-to place to eat in Whitehaven. (Waitess/service)
