Khan's at the Waterloo
A69, Aglionby, CarlisleWe have been here before years ago and back then, Waterloo made both the best Vindaloo and also the best naan bread I have ever had (we are big curry lovers).
Years later (as I write this now), we just got back home and I must leave this review just to say that you are still just as amazing as before! Everything from food to service was flawless and we greatly look forward to being back again as soon as we can!
Keep up the amazing work and we wish you continues success!

Penny Blue Restaurant & Bar
20-34 Warwick Rd, CarlisleWent with family for a birthday meal, the food was lovely, but our food didn't really match the description and therefore our expectations. There was a minor mix up of our order, but the staff quickly sorted that out for us. I was impressed by the service. It was Friday evening at 7:00 and we weren't expecting it to be quite so busy, it was so noisy you could only just hear any conversation. The venue is very beautiful, it's a lovely spot.

Gosling Bridge Inn
Kingstown Rd, CarlisleReally nice pub/restaurant. Ive been twice this week for a cheesy stack burger and the hunters chicken this evening. Took me a while to figure out why it was so nice....no loud pumping music! Just a nice low hubbub of people chattering away enjoying their partners and friends company. Takes a while to order and get that order but that due to it being busy and deservedly so! The staff are hard working and super nice and the food is well cooked and tasty....as usual, the bottom line - would i come back and would i recommend it....YES definitely, good food, good beer, really nice atmosphere and above all great friendly happy staff.

Abbey Court Guesthouse
22-26 London Rd, CarlisleI’ve stayed here twice now and cannot fault a thing! I’ve stayed in the twin room and also one of the singles and next time I’m booking room 14 now I’ve had a nose around! I think the first thing you notice are how friendly the staff are, every single one of them. Then you realise how clean everywhere is, not a speck of dust on the skirting boards or panelling. The rooms are quite compact, if you are over 6ft, room 4 is not for you, but I’m 5’9”and fitted perfectly. A lot of the rooms face the main road, which is noisy, but then you close the windows and it is perfectly quiet. I slept like a log! There is so much choice for breakfast, which is included in the price. There is also a little courtyard garden you can sit in.
I can’t praise this Guest House enough and I can’t wait until my next visit!

Fontanas
95 London Rd, CarlisleWhenever I’m passing through Carlisle station, I always take the time to visit. Food is always excellent and the service was great on this visit. I was advised there would be a wait while they cooked me a cod, which was fine as it’s definitely better cooked fresh and it wasn’t a long wait anyway. The food did not disappoint, it was all fresh and tasty and for £7.80 for a ‘small’ (it was still a healthy portion) including a side of gravy it’s a very reasonable price. For similar quality and portions down in Yorkshire where I live you’d be talking easily over £10.

They've been having a major tidy up and refresh since I last visited so it is even easier to browse the shelves of the excellent stock across genres and formats with books from antiquity to the contemporary, and there are plenty of cosy corners to settle for a short while to view the shelves and take stock of any finds.

I Love Cafe
20-21 St Cuthbert's Ln, CarlisleMy first visit, I've been meaning to go for ages. Located in St Cuthbert's Lane furthest from the city centre, it's inviting from outside and cosy and warm inside. You're welcomed with a very appropriate Northern theme.
I waited to be seated, was given a menu, and time to ask questions before deciding on my treat. I have to say with so many sweet and savoury treats on offer it took some deciding.
The cheese scone and skin on fries with Earl Grey tea were the order of the day. Delicious. I will have to return to sample the sweet treats.
The atmosphere and decor were fantastic, and the staff were helpful, friendly, and super efficient. You can pay cash or card, and there's a loyalty card for scones and cakes!!!
This cafe is accessible and I observed a customer in a wheelchair navigating the premises with ease.
A very busy little cafés so you might need to be prepared to wait at peak times.

Bookcase
17-19 Castle Street, CarlisleMy absolute favourite secondhand bookshop ? It's always such an absolute delight to visit, being well-stocked and refreshed, I always pick up a stack of books each time.

The restaurant was super busy, but the staff were able to seat me and do 2 courses in less than an hour between me running for the next train home.
The chef managed my allergy requirements without a hitch. Highly highly recommended
Two courses and a large gin under 35 pounds great value

The Stag Inn
Low Crosby, Crosby-on-Eden, CarlisleA lovely traditional village pub serving great food and beer. We visited on a Sunday lunchtime, and there were multiple roasts on offer as well as other options. The roast dinners were excellent with plenty of it. My wife thought the Steak Pie was the best she'd ever had and again plenty of it. Desserts were again very good and homemade with the chocolate brownie and cheesecake highly recommended. We were a party of 10 and the service was very good with friendly staff. Overall, we were very impressed.

Pentonbridge Inn
B6318, Penton, CarlisleOur dinner was close to perfection - all the staff were kind, professional and knowledgable (made us laugh too, at times) and the cooking was absolutely outstanding. After a few disappointing 'top-end' dining experiences lately, our visit restored our belief in the joy that cooking and food at this level can bring. Just brilliant.
