Springtide, Charlestown
Charlestown Rd, Charlestown, Saint AustellI can’t rate this place highly enough. We were let down by another restaurant last minute as they cancelled our booking and they were able to accommodate me and my family for my son’s 8th birthday. The staff were amazing, the food was exceptional and the atmosphere was lovely. We even had the whole restaurant singing my son ‘happy birthday’ at the end. Was a great night and one we will always remember. Thanks to the team and kitchen for a fantastic experience.

The Boathouse Charlestown
Charlestown Rd, Saint AustellGreat food, but a bit on the pricey side.
While we were very grateful to find The Boathouse, especially with convenient parking right outside, the prices of the meals were on par with Central London! Unfortunately despite the prices being on the higher side, the food fell just a bit short.
That said though, the Seafood Sharer platter was sublime and had some of the best Mussels I've had in years!
I tried the "Meat your maker" pizza, which was dissapointing as not all the meat mentioned on the menu was present (Bacon most notably) and the chicken slices looked (and tasted) as if they came straight out of a Tescos cold meat pack. There was little in the way of flavor for the Pizza.
The Boathouse Burger had some tasty bits, but was greasy and drowning in sauce, which meant the bottom half of the burger was mush before we got to enjoy any of it. The multitude of ingredients, combined with a Brioche bun meant it was exceptionally rich and we struggled to finish it.
The Blade of beef with Mash and veg was sublime and we loved it! Was the only thing outside the Mussels that we would come back for, would highly recommend ?
Staff were friendly and service was okay given how few there were compared to how busy it was.

Harbour Tavern
Jetty St, Mevagissey, Saint AustellWe booked in for lunch on Saturday 30 December (family of four with two young children and our dog) and the team could not have accommodated us more. They made room for us, waited on us hand and foot and provided snacks for our dog. Food was delicious and came out quickly, staff were amazing and incredibly attentive, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The little touches, like providing snacks for our dog, really made the experience special. We’ll definitely be returning (we've been a few times and have always had a positive experience) and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food and exceptional service.

The Carclaze
St Austell Enterprise park, Treverbyn Rd, Carclaze, Saint AustellFrom start to finish, the whole experience was abysmal. We rang in advance to see if they would be showing the rugby, and they said that 100% they would be. So we booked a table on this assumption. Arrived well before kick off, only to find that all 3 teles were out of action and had been for some time! Next problem was mealtime, came to order a combo type meal just to be told that there were no goujons. Asked if I could have wings instead, but the chef said he couldn't do that, even though they were serving wings with other dishes. The waiter and barman were trying to be helpful, but the bar manager(or that's what he looked like he was trying to be)was going out of his way to be awkward. Really poor experience all round. The Premier Inn next door was just as bad. Really loud noises late at night and in the early hours. Reception just said run your taps, its the boiler. No apologies, they were more surprised that I had brought it to their attention!

24 Hour Restaurants

The Elephant Bar & Brasserie
at The Cornwall Hotel Spa and Estate, Pentewan Road, Saint AustellStaying at the hotel this was the easy option for dinner but we really enjoyed the outstanding bbq pulled pork pizza and I'd return for that if close by again. The Cornish cheeseboard was a bit limited with only 3 cheeses, all of which were hard cheeses, one of which was a herb cheese. I expected a bit more variety with cornish cheeses tbh with maybe a soft cheese and / or blue cheese and also what was really needed with a regional cheeseboard was a description of what the cheeses were so I could purchase locally. Being a bit of a cheese fan I didn't order this because I don't like sweet puddings, I ordered because I love cheese, so to get such a limited selection with no info was disappointing. The pickled celery accompanying the cheeseboard was amazing though!Breakfast included with our stay was lovely, perfectly cooked and great produce so I'd recommend this place to eat any time of day.

Edie's
10 Beach Rd, Carlyon Bay, Saint AustellWe visited Edies while on holiday. We booked it while based on Tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed. Located in a very ordinary looking local shopping arcade it is nothing ordinary at all. Edie's small team make you feel immediately welcome and the restauraunt is simple but nicely decorated in muted tones. There's a reasonable amount of background noise but conversation is private as a result. The menu is compact - 4-5 choices per course and all cooked to order. Simply put the foof was amazing - it was so difficult to make a chouce we had to come back for a 2nd night to sample other things on the menu :o) For the standard of food, wine and service I would say this is a great value place to eat if compared with many so called gastro pubs! Domino's Pizza - St Austell
80 Southbourne Rd, Saint AustellI’m not one for leaving reviews but I just had to after the fabulous service I received from the manager. We’ve recently discovered that my daughter is lactose intolerant which means that she misses out on most things that she previously loved. Last night everyone fancied Domino's for dinner which is usually a problem for her so I decided to call and see what we could do. Ronan (I think) said ‘no problem, I can put normal toppings on a plant based pizza for her and I’ll add a note on your account so that you come through to me when you order’. My daughter absolutely loved her pizza and said it tasted no different!! Thanks so much Ronan!! You’ve made her very happy (which is a challenge for a teenager lol)

Costa Coffee
Unit 1, Cornwall Services, Victoria, Saint AustellVisited in store recently for coffee and asked the lady at the till if all of the cakes apply for the free birthday slice from the app (it was my birthday, obviously) and she just simply said yes. They always seem quite grumpy at the shop inside the services which is a shame. I've worked in customer service and hospitality for years but even without this, surely it's just kind human nature to say happy birthday when someone goes into store and clearly scans the birthday cake reward?! Thought that was really bizarre. That said, I only popped in here because the drive thru was shut for a few days. I visit there weekly on the way to work and everyone there, everytime I go is always so lovely, friendly and chatty. They must recognise regulars and we have a bit of a natter whilst I'm paying - the drive thru is a credit to Costa!

The Wagon Wheel Fish & Chips
2 Trevanion Hill, Trewoon, Saint AustellWas in Cornwall a few years back and looking for places that do gluten free fish and chips, and there were plenty. Cut to coming back this year and going back to the same places and none of them do it anymore.
Then to my surprise a Google search brings up The Wagon Wheel and even then I'm sceptical. Because I Google search the others and they still mention gluten free, so why not the same here. To my surprise the Wagon Wheel has a fantastic and simple to use website, and it lists the GF options. It's clear to order and all their chips are automatically GF as they are friend separate. I place the order, it's confirmed, I then go to pick it up. Then low and behold I come across an lovely fish and chip shop, with excellent staff, fantastic and friend customer service.
I took the fish and chips home and had it for dinner. It was smashing. Filled me up and tasted great. I couldn't get through ALL the chips, so have saved it for the next day. Can't recommend this shop enough!
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free.
Parking: Found parking directly outside the shop, near closing time so probably less people about so parking was easy.

Very unusually, two tables came and left without ordering. This seems to be down to a recent change of proprietor and a radical change of styles, all too much for what is, I guess, a novelty resistant local clientele.

Nile's Bakery & Cafe
Holmbush Cafe, 100 Holmbush Rd, Saint AustellAMAZING! cornish pasties. Cute place inside. Looks very accessible other than the normal problem of table and chairs. (But that often can't be helped)
Honestly I'm sad to leave the place, I could stay and eat here forever.
Parking: 7 to 10 parking spots
Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp to door, open ish floor plan, enough for a wheelchair to access most the eating area.
No disabled Bay from brief look.

St Austell Brewery
63 Trevarthian Rd, Saint AustellThe brewery tour here was great! Ed was brilliant - so knowledgeable, friendly, personable and interesting. We really enjoyed it! We were on holiday and had a wet weather day so was trying to find something indoors to do and this was perfect. Even if you don't drink beer (myself included) the history of the brewery and family business was so interesting. And I still really enjoyed the tasting at the end.

Ship Inn
31-33 W End, Pentewan, Saint AustellHad a delicious seafood dinner last night- combined their famous delicious Crab Claw shared starter with a scallop Special & was the best meal out anywhere this summer- even compared to a specialist fish restaurant at double the price.

fresh feel to the place.

The Western Inn
The Western Inn, West Hill, Saint AustellGreat pub, amazing food and brilliant service. Thoroughly recommend the trio of sausages with lovely creamy mash. My husband loved his surf & turf burger and the chips were superb! We had a brilliant evening, really enjoyed the karaoke. Very friendly bar team they made us very welcome. Employee of the month should definitely be awarded to Kieran, especially as he doesn't even work there but had us in fits of laughter and entertained us whilst he served our food and drinks.
I was very impressed with the basket of sanitary items in the ladies toilet for use should they be needed, very thoughtful & a wonderful idea.
